The Peninsula Diaries Series
A diagnosis of breast cancer in August 2013 necessitated a move interstate to access treatment, and Dromana on the Mornington Peninsula was Dawn's temporary home for seven months. During this time she set up a temporary studio in the Renehan family beach house.
A different part of Australia with a different climate offered new and different different flora; the Victorian environment provided a wealth of stimuli for a new series of work entitled 'The Peninsula Diaries'.
Initially consisting of three large scale works that combine textile resist techniques with selective overpainting in oils there are plans to expand this series as Dawn revisits the area for follow up treatment and family visits. The original three painting were all purchased by the Bays Eye Clinic in Mornington and are currently hung in the practice waiting rooms.
