Darwin Fridge Festival 2010
In 2010 Darwin held its first Fridge Festival (that's not a spelling mistake..its all about fridges!!!). The fridge aspect of the festival provided a challenge to local artists to rescue a fridge from Landfill and turn it into an artwork.
Dawn Beasley's finished work combines three different images, each side of the fridge representing a different environment that form part of her regular running route through the northern suburbs, past the mangroves and tree lined pathways and Casuarina beach. It's a beautiful route marred only but litter left behind unnecessarily by thoughtless people. It was during the creation of this work that Dawn's ideas and concepts for her Leaf Litter exhibition took shape, and this fridge was also displayed in that show.
One of Dawn Beasley's Art students also produced a painted fridge for the same festival. The project was so successful that it inspired a year 11 class project the following year... which has now become an annual tradition. To see some of her student's fridges follow this link to the O'Loughlin College website.
This piece of work was purchased by Sprout Creative, a highly successful Darwin graphic design business and can be viewed in their exhibition space.
